Use the Claw Grip to Prevent Cutting Your Fingertips

Daily Kitchen Note

Using the claw grip when chopping vegetables keeps your fingertips safe from the knife blade. Curl your fingers under and let your knuckles guide the knife to prevent accidental cuts.

How to Use claw grip

  1. Place the vegetable on a stable cutting board.
  2. Hold the vegetable with your non-knife hand, curling your fingers under so your knuckles face the knife blade.
  3. Use your knuckles as a guide for the knife blade as you slice, keeping your fingertips safely tucked away.

Why it works

The claw grip tucks your vulnerable fingertips away from the sharp edge of the knife. By resting the side of the blade against your knuckles, you create a physical barrier that guides the knife safely while you chop.
