Daily Kitchen Note
Bananas can quickly turn brown and overripe on the counter. Wrapping their stems in plastic wrap slows down the ripening process, giving you more time to enjoy them.

How to Wrap banana stems
- Keep the bananas attached in a bunch.
- Tear off a small square of plastic wrap or aluminum foil.
- Wrap the material tightly around the crown where all the stems meet, ensuring it is completely covered.
Why it works
Bananas release ethylene gas from their stems, which triggers the fruit to ripen. By covering the stems tightly, you trap the gas and prevent it from spreading to the rest of the fruit, slowing down the ripening process.
